Is Synthetic CBD Dangerous For Your Health?

Written by Corre Addam

With the various CBD products on the market today, how is one supposed to know what’s the real deal and what’s the fake stuff?

CBD is available in many different forms – CBD oils, tincture and softgels, to name a few. But then there’s always the synthetic stuff, which has a bunch of other implications. For example, many people have heard of “Spice” a form of synthetic cannabis flower which has deadly side effects and causes psychosis in some users.

However, synthetic CBD, as opposed to things like Spice, are considered to be safe, and have even been used in clinical trials on mice. One such study actually showed the ability of CBD synthesized with other chemical compounds, such as fluoride and bromide, to prevent convulsions in the mice, although no clinical trials to date have been carried out on humans.

While clinical trials on mice and research is being carried out to determine the efficacy and safety of synthetic CBD, bioavailability is largely unknown in humans. Although a seperate positive piece of research, using CBD synthesized from fluoride, claims enhancement of mice anxiolytic, antidepressant, antipsychotic and anti-compulsive activities.

For now, the lack of human research into synthetic CBD is limiting the market, even though there’s a wide variety of natural CBD available. This whole-plant CBD has been tested in numerous studies on humans, and that fact makes it a much safer and more viable option for many.

Studies exist showing the positive impact CBD has on the human endocannabinoid system, aiding people who suffer from emotional issues, to Parkinson’s and even to Cancer. For the time being, natural whole-plant Hemp-derived CBD is probably a better option than synthetic CBD, but that reality could change in the future as more studies are carried out.
