While many people think that coffee and cannabis area natural pair, one of the two is not strictly legal in most countries. In Canada though…
Second Cup coffee shops have been serving delicious coffee and croissants for many good years, but now, according to their Chairman, they are branching out into cannabis sales.
With recreational cannabis sales expected to become federally legal throughout Canada this summer, cannabis is slated to be on the menu, right next to your favorite espresso and cappuccino.
As Second Cup chairman Michael Bregman, told reporters, “(Cannabis) is going to be an awfully big business in Canada, and we have some amazing locations. I wish I knew now in what form we would be pursuing and participating. We’re just trying to position ourselves so we can participate as the opportunities arise and the legislation is formed.”
It’s a joint venture too, as Second Cup are joining forces with the National Access Cannabis Corp. who will be involved in supplying the cannabis to the chain’s outlets. For now, Second Cup has 300 branches in Canada, and when all the relevant licenses are in place, customers will indeed be enjoying weed with their coffee, and that’s not forgetting the mandatory munchies.
For the time being cannabis access is limited in Canada to a degree, as it’s still not officially legal.
But since Second Cup announced the new move , their shares spiked by 30%, which they hope will bode well for the future.
