The FDA held its first public hearing to discuss CBD regulations

On Friday, May 31st, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) met with hundreds of industry stakeholders to discuss their next step in regulating CBD-infused food items and dietary supplements. Testimony came from a number of professionals including regulators, healthcare providers, advocates, opponents, and patients/consumers, most of which emphasized the importance in creating some sort of government standards for the industry. Canadian government pledges $24.5 million for medical cannabis research

In 2018, Canada became the largest country to legalize recreational cannabis at the federal level. So far, legalization is going relatively well with a few of the most dominant companies in the industry coming out of Canada – some of which are publicly traded. Medical cannabis has been legal since 2001 but studies have been severely hindered by confusing regulations. TSA updates policy to allow hemp-derived CBD on flights

Until now, travelers have been prohibited from taking CBD products on a flight – some have even been arrested for it. This made it difficult for patients who rely on cannabidiol to travel for work or even take a small vacation. Last week though, the Transportation Security Administration finally updated its archaic policy to all hemp-derived CBD products on all domestic and international flights. Bulgaria makes history by becoming the first EU country to allow CBD sales

Although a bit behind the United States and even further from Canada, cannabis reform is sweeping through Europe at a moderate pace. Most of the continent is a bit conservative still, but Bulgaria just made a move that’s unprecedented even in the U.S. This Eastern European country is now the first in the Union to allow free sales of CBD products – including foodstuffs and supplements.
